Hazardous Occupancy

HAZARDOUS (OCCUPANCY) Many different activities can be and are pursued in live/work spaces. Some of these activities, such as welding and woodworking (with more than three fixed pieces of equipment) fall under the hazardous occupancy classification. Under the live/work building code, such hazardous occupancies are not permitted in live/work spaces which share a "common atmosphere" (are in the same room with) residential portions of the unit. In fact, if it is truly a hazardous occupancy, it must be entirely outside of the unit or separated from the residential portion by a fire wall.
